All great quad-core things must wait, they say. And waited we have, since February, for the Huawei Ascend D Quad. Back in June we heard that the gang at Huawei had encountered some problem with the phone’s processor, which caused the quad-core phone to be delayed until August. Now we have confirmation that the Ascend D Quad is ready to face the world.
As reported by Unwired View, the Chinese has announced that the Ascend D Quad will hit local stores by the end of the month, with both black and white model available for purchase. Sadly, the company stopped short in announcing the price of the phone, which means we have to rely on a prior leak that puts the Ascend D Quad at approximately 2,999 RMB ($470).
If accurate, it means the Huawei Ascend D Quad is a grand more expensive than the recently launched Xiaomi Mi2, which happens to sport a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. And since it’s been a while, here are the specs of the phone once more. The Ascend D Quad houses a 4.5-inch IPS HD display, 1GB RAM, 8MP rear camera, 8GB onboard storage, microSD card slot, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Launching at the end of the August as well is the Huawei Ascend Q Quad XL, which has the same internals as the regular variant, save for the bigger 2,600mAh battery, and consequently a slightly thicker frame.
We have to say that the quad-core landscape has grown more competitive since the phone was first announced. Huawei needs to price the Ascend D Quad right if it were to gain any traction. And please give us some international release date already.
