Samsung enraged a lot of people by releasing the Galaxy S3 Mini, but even if the general opinion seems to be that incremental device updates are bad for the market, Sammy is going on with its plan of prepping another such ever so slightly upgraded phone, called the Galaxy Premier.
Initially rumored to be called the Galaxy Nexus 2 and also known by its GT-I9260 codename, the 4.65-incher has been spotted on Picasa, has had a photo leaked, has been benchmarked, and then benchmarked again only to now appear in another pic.
This latest photo is much crisper than the first and it also comes from a more trustworthy source, good ol’ @evleaks Twitter account. Still, we can’t help but hope this is some sort of elaborate hoax, as we have no idea who would Samsung want to target with such a handheld.
To cite another Twitter user commenting on @evleaks’s status, this "looks incredibly like the S3 with a sticker on". But what’s the point of a downgraded Galaxy S3 with a WVGA screen and a 1,650 mAh battery?
Does Samsung want to make an affordable version of the S3? That’s fine with us, but why not make it smaller if you’re going to equip it with such a meager battery? Not to mention that I think I speak for all of you when I say that instead of an 800 x 480 pix res 4.65-inch screen, a smaller display with a qHD resolution would be much more appreciated.
Sure, this could be also viewed as an upgraded Galaxy Nexus and it does seem to have a snappier chip (dual-core 1.5 GHz TI OMAP) and a better 8 MP camera, but by God, it’s too small of an evolution to count. The only good thing seems to be the running of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, especially that the Premier is rumored to come in December.
Does anyone understand what is Galaxy Premier’s deal? Is it a downgraded Galaxy S3, a slightly upgraded Galaxy Nexus or just a big mistake?
